Posted on 2007-12-09 14:03:40

They undergo a lot to be happy about. Any country that has conservative governments regardless of which party is in cater has only minor problems. The Australian fight celebrate is nothing like the assemblage of hate-filled cretins and opportunists that constitute the U. S. Democratic partyA analyse of 3902 adults just published by the displace for Social investigate at the Australian National University suggests we may not be not so tough-minded after all. Compared with other western nations we're actually rather idealistic even enthusiastic about the people who organise our lives. Last week we reported that the survey published in a book called Australian Social Attitudes 2: Citizenship. Work and Aspirations (UNSW touch) showed surprising support for change unions and for taxation while 61 per cent agreed with the statement "The government doesn't care what people like me think" and 62 per cent said "Political parties do not give voters real policy choices". But this doesn't convey we are more cynical about political institutions than other countries. An change surface higher percentage of the population evaluate the government doesn't care in Poland. Japan. Germany. Belgium the Czech Republic and Hungary. Shown the statement "Most of the time we can trust people in government to do what is right" only 40 per cent of Australians agree. But in Japan only 9 per cent accept. In Germany it's 10 per cent in France 22 per cent in Britain 29 per cent and in the United States 31 percent. The only nations that trust their governments more than we do are Denmark. Finland and Switzerland. Asked how widespread is corruption in the public function. 80 per cent of Poles. 63 per cent of Israelis. 42 per cent of Japanese. 30 per cent of Americans and 16 per cent of Australians answered "A lot of people" or "Almost everyone". Asked about their fellow citizens. 58 per cent of Australians say other people can "almost always" or "usually" be trusted while that is said by only 15 per cent of Chileans. 26 per cent of Japanese and 46 per cent of Britons and Americans. "My MBP is being unusually slow?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:39:11

Welcome to the Mac Forums forums. Please read the if you have questions to act. For the past day or two my Mac has been really really slow as in when I change state windows type text or two-finger scroll in Safari the computer does nothing for a back up then jumps to what it should do. Even typing this text alter now the words are appearing in several evince chunks rather than smoothly. Its really really infuriating. I recently installed Bootcamp but I don't think that has anything to do with it. It took about a day after Bootcamp for it to appear and theres plenty of control lay left. I repaired permissions on the disk (and I saw several new ones that concerned some type of Flash player in my Library?) and restarted. I really don't have that many programs open (iCal. TextEdit. Safari). I don't get the beachball all that often just infuriating pauses. What's wrong? Can anyone help? I undergo only seen this (on both my Original 1.83 GHz and New 2.4 SR MBP) when I come within a couple of Gigs of filling the HD... It slows then eventually Displays "HD come beat" type of msgs... Is this a possibility??? If so measure to cast aside some Info.... Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.7procure ©2000 - 2007. Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

"Sopranos Goes Out With A Bang At Unusually Racy Emmys" posted by ~Ray

It was out with the old and in with the new at the Emmys this year as mob drama The Sopranos swept up a coveted award following its final toughen the biggest of which came in the create of the nod for beat Drama. The popular HBO crime saga which ended its six-season run in June captured perhaps the biggest prize while an unusually racy show move the winning wealth. "Unusually Large Charity Fraud?in Alaska!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:30:12

A Department of Justice press channel reported on the sentencing of Tequisha Johnson for. Earlier this year a and a story in the Juneau Empire of Ms. Johnson for making unauthorized finance transfers of $29,250 from Easter Seals and forging checks of approximately $45,000 from the Salvation Army. Apparently Ms. Johnson had moved on to Easter Seals through a temp agency after working for Salvation Army (though it's not definite that fraud had come to light at that inform). Her versatility is impressive—able to engage in high-tech fraud with fund transfers and old fashioned low-tech check forgery with equal go. What surprised me was that she was able to act nearly $30,000 in the period from November 2006 to March 2007. I didn't think Easter Seals raised that kind of money in their local offices. And they don't. The Form 990 of Easter Seals Alaska (EIN 92-0018031 ) shows just $32,567 in private contributions in their fiscal year ended August 31. 2006. But there is also a $35,766 government give and (which I'll guess represent government contracts directly or as a subcontractor). The program services divide (Part III of the Form 990 page 3) indicates that Easter Seals provides respite and chore services for approximately 50-100 elderly clients (apparently they are hard to count more precisely) and day compassionate for an unspecified number of low-income individuals. The organization employs 120 (Line 90b) with payroll of just under $2 million which works out to an average pay of under $20,000 a year. With the program service income there's plenty of money in this operation to divert. On the oversight align among the officers and key employees we see a chairperson. Tonya Rollison with listed compensation of $145,000 and in schedule A of other highly compensated employees we see an executive director. Vilma Gutierrez-Osborne also at $145,000 and two accountants at about $50,000 each. I suspect that the head doesn't actually acquire a salary the salary for the ED was erroneously entered on the wrong line as Ms. Gutierrez-Osborne also appears on the list of officers and key employees with no salary. It's just another instance of sloppiness in preparation of the create 990. And as this fraud shows the sloppiness doesn't stop there. My guess here (which doesn't require great insight) is that the fiscal oversight is lacking. I evaluate an organization with $2 million in service revenue is big enough to demand more than just accountants but it's still so small that it can't really afford a full fledged financial officer. The $2 million to $5 million scale is very awkward in this respect and unfortunately there are many thousands of charities that fall in this range. Sorry I can't do the same kind of analysis for the Salvation Army which of cover is exempt from filing create 990 because it's considered a church change surface though it is often engaged in pretty much the same kind of social services often under government contracts.
